According to 13wham.com 51-year old Susan Banker of Lima, NY, died after falling under a police horse at Marketplace Mall parking lot in Rochester, New York on Saturday January 5. 2008. Pamela Banker said her sister Susan asked if she could pet the deputy’s horse and after permission reached out to pet the horse. Horse moved away from Susan Banker causing her to reach out farther to be able to pet him.
She lost her balance and fell underneath the horse which startled the horse. Deputy tried to calm the horse down and move him away from the woman but dismounted only after Susan Banker was stepped on her chest several times by the horse according to Pamela Banker.

“It all happened so quickly, my sister was helpless while the horse was stepping on her chest and stomach area” said Pamela Banker. Susan Banker was taken to the Strong Memorial Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Her family was not allowed to follow her to the hospital immediately according to Pamela Banker, because they were taken to the mall to be questioned by the authorities about what had happened.

The sheriffs office stated that there were no obvious signs that Susan Banker was stepped on by the horse. Pamela Banker said that her family is planning to speak to an attorney and legal action is possible against the sheriff’s office.

Autopsy results were expected to be released some time on Monday January 7.
